Steel Structure Commercial Aircraft Hangar with 6.7m Pocket for Megadoor
This custom steel hangar building was originally outfitted with a bottom-rolling door, stored in a 6.7m pocket in the front, which limited the total width of the opening. Airplane hangar #3 used an energy-efficient vertical lifting high hangar door system by Megadoor, which provides unencumbered access to the interior and consists of three individually operated door leafs and two retractable mullions, for which ZHM Huawu Steel determined deflection requirements and provided custom supporting steel components and structural integration.
Site constraints were a consideration, as the aircraft hangar is confined between two existing hangars, and since the site Airport receives more snow than any other major commercial airport in the country, snow loads and the energy-efficiency of the building were a factor.
