Double 40m Span Steel Bowstring Girder River Steel Bridge Construction Project Nile Sudan
No Pics.
ZHM have constructed bridges of varying sizes for Sudan, including this double 40m span steel framed river bridge, which is positioned over a tributary of the River Nile. This tributary could not be dammed, and so the bridge could not be erected in position. As there are no cranes in Sudan big enough to lower bridges of this size into place, a cantilever launch was required. This meant attaching a launch nose onto one end of the bridge, and erecting it on rollers at the side of the river, rolling the bridge across the river in increments, adding new sections as the bridge rolls across.
